AUGUST 12 – STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS *Season 2 Premiere*

• Developed by Emmy Award^® winner Mike McMahan (RICK AND MORTY, SOLAR OPPOSITES), Season 2 of the half-hour animated comedy series, STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS, premieres Thursday, August 12 on Crave and CTV Sci-Fi Channel at 9 p.m. ET. The favourite scrappy underdogs of the U.S.S. Cerritos return with exciting new adventures, and Ensigns Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Boimler (Jack Quaid), Rutherford (Eugene Cordero), and Tendi (Noël Wells) must keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies. The ship's bridge crew includes Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis), Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O’Connell), and Doctor T'Ana (Gillian Vigman). STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes streaming Thursdays on Crave and airing at 9 p.m. ET on CTV Sci-Fi.

AUGUST 13 – NOMADLAND *Movie Premiere*

• Winning three awards at the 93^rd OSCARS^®, including Best Picture, Chloé Zhao’s NOMADLAND is a portrait of itinerant lives on open roads across the American West. Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (played by Frances McDormand, who won Best Actress for her role in the film) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society, as a modern-day nomad. Streaming Friday, August 13, NOMADLAND features real nomads Linda May, Swankie, and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West. Earlier this year, Zhao made history at the Academy Awards, becoming the first woman of colour to win best director for the film, and just the second woman to win the award.

AUGUST 15 – STARZ’s HEELS *Series Premiere*

• The new STARZ series HEELS begins streaming on Sunday, August 15, and follows the story of a group of men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers (Canada’s own Stephen Amell, ARROW and Alexander Ludwig, VIKINGS) and rivals battle over their late father's legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to or hard to leave behind. HEELS follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping Sundays on STARZ.

AUGUST 15 – HBO’s THE WHITE LOTUS *Season Finale*

• Recently renewed for a second installment, HBO’s hit series THE WHITE LOTUS airs it’s season finale on Sunday, August 15 at 9 p.m. ET. Since premiering in July, the series has garnered critical acclaim, with The Globe and Mail’s John Doyle calling it “one of the year’s best new shows,” and The New York Times’ James Poniewozik describing it as a “sharp, soulful series that knows its characters in full and gets richer as it goes on.” Created, written, and directed by Mike White (ENLIGHTENED), the social satire is set at an exclusive Hawaiian resort, The White Lotus, and follows the vacations of various hotel guests over the span of a week as they relax and rejuvenate in paradise. With each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travelers, the hotel's cheerful employees, and the idyllic locale itself. In the season finale, Rachel (Alexandra Daddario) shares some harsh truths with Shane (Jake Lacy) and confides in Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), who’s reeling from bad news of her own. As the Mossbachers turn the page on their harrowing scare, Quinn (Fred Hechinger) reveals major life plans. With nothing left to lose, Armond (Murray Bartlett) goes on an all-out bender – and exacts the ultimate revenge on his nemesis.

AUGUST 18 – HBO’s IN THE SAME BREATH *Documentary Premiere*

• Winner of Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize earlier this year, and an official selection of the 2021 Hot Docs Festival, HBO’s IN THE SAME BREATH debuts Wednesday, August 18 at 9 p.m. ET. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Nanfu Wang (One Child Nation), IN THE SAME BREATH recounts the experiences of people on the ground in the earliest days of the novel coronavirus and the way two countries dealt with its initial spread, from the first days of the outbreak in Wuhan to its rampage across the United States. Directed with a deeply personal approach by Wang, who was born in China and now lives in the United States, the film explores the early confusion and parallel campaigns by authorities to try to contain the virus as well as shape the public narrative through misinformation, resulting in a devastating impact on citizens of both countries.
