TORONTO (July 6, 2016) – After a five-year journey, NASA’s Juno Spacecraft created history late on July 4 when it successfully entered Jupiter’s orbit. Bringing NASA’s groundbreaking milestone to the masses, Discovery attracted 406,000 viewers last night with its original Canadian production JUPITER: CLOSE ENCOUNTER to become the day’s most-watched entertainment specialty broadcast.
Anchored by DAILY PLANET’s Dr. Dan Riskin from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, JUPITER: CLOSE ENCOUNTER becomes the most-watched special ever produced by Discovery’s Exploration Production Inc. (EPI), joining a library of successful Canadian productions including 2015’s PLUTO: FIRST ENCOUNTER. The gripping one-hour special was also the #1 entertainment specialty program of the day among key adult viewer demos: A25-54 (168,000) and A18-49 (134,000). In all, 858,000 Canadians watched some part or all of JUPITER: CLOSE ENCOUNTER.
Special encore presentations of JUPITER: CLOSE ENCOUNTER air this Sunday (July 10) at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on Discovery and 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Discovery Science.
