Shocking Double Elimination Sees Two Home Cooks Leave CTV’s MASTERCHEF CANADA Competition, Followed By a Surprise Twist

– Alyssa LeBlanc from Tusket, N.S. and Jenny Miller from Havre Boucher, N.S. are eliminated from the MASTERCHEF CANADA competition – – On the next episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, eliminated home cooks put their knife skills to the test in a series of challenges to earn their way back into the competition –

TORONTO (May 6, 2019) – In tonight’s episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the home cooks learned whether taking a risk is worth the reward. In the end, MASTERCHEF CANADA judges Michael Bonacini, Claudio Aprile, and Alvin Leung revealed that Alyssa LeBlanc, a former public servant from Tusket, N.S., and Jenny Miller, a stay-at-home mom from Havre Boucher, N.S., would be the next home cooks to leave their white apron behind in the MASTERCHEF CANADA Kitchen. In a surprise twist, the judges then informed the eliminated home cooks that they would return to the kitchen next week for a special Redemption Challenge, and the chance to earn back their apron.

With five home cooks now remaining in the competition, MASTERCHEF CANADA returns Monday, May 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca, and the CTV app.

On tonight’s episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the Top 7 home cooks faced off in a Mystery Box Challenge that presented two choices: ingredients in a clear box that they could see, or an opaque box with surprise ingredients inside. Only Andre and Josh took the safe route, with Alyssa, Chanelle, Cryssi, Jennifer, and Jenny taking the risk and earning a 15-minute head start on the challenge. At the end of the cook, Cryssi’s pan fried black cod with potato salad and roasted romanesco impressed the judges the most, earning her an advantage, but not safety, for the Elimination Challenge.

Leading Cryssi to the pantry, the judges unveiled that the next task would be to create a dish highlighting extravagant Asian ingredients. As her advantage, Cryssi assigned each home cook their ingredient and received a head start on her pantry selection. Many home cooks were thrown off by the unfamiliar ingredients, but Jennifer rose to the occasion with their creatively-plated ebisu dai carpaccio with chili-lime sauce. When tasting their winning dish, Chef Alvin noted that he was deeply touched in the way that Jennifer preserved the fish carcass. On the other side of the kitchen, both Alyssa and Jenny struggled to highlight their luxury ingredients as the star flavour of their dishes, and were ultimately eliminated.

In the next all-new episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, “Knife Fight” (Monday, May 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca, and the CTV app), the eliminated home cooks have a chance to earn their way back into the MASTERCHEF CANADA Kitchen in a series of challenges that put their knife skills to the test. Three lightning-fast Pressure Tests, featuring three different culinary blades, require precision and technique to recreate culinary masterpieces. In the end, one home cook impresses the judges enough to take back their white apron and rejoin the competition.

The remaining Top 5 home cooks vying for the title of MASTERCHEF CANADA and the $100,000 cash prize are:

  • Andre Bhagwandat, Hospital Housekeeper from Scarborough, Ont.
  • Chanelle Saks, Entrepreneur from Calgary, Alta.
  • Cryssi Larocque, Former Airline Agent from Thunder Bay, Ont.
  • Jennifer Crawford, Senior Policy Analyst from Kingston, N.S.
  • Josh Miller, Youth Care Home Manager from Regina, S.K.
